Activist-singer Taina Asili makes music of strong views, open heart and big sounds. Friday, she introduces her new album “Resiliencia” (her third) at the Sanctuary for Independent Media (3361 6th Ave., Troy), inviting guests DJ Johnny Juice, tap-dancer Lajas, sitarist Veena Chandra, poet Amani Olugbala and dancer Leah Penniman into the already nine-piece band that played a thrilling opener with Pascualina Ilabaca last July at Music Haven.
Puerto Rican-born singer-songwriter Asili passionately protests the neglect of her island home after Hurricane Maria; Rolling Stone picked up her TV-smashing video for “No Es Mi Presidente.” But she doesn’t need a sledgehammer to deliver her message of compassionate outrage. 7 p.m. Free. 518-272-2390 www.mediasanctuary.org
